Broccoli seed Brassica Oleracea

Broccoli, Brassica oleracea, variety italica, is a form of cabbage, and member of the  mustard family (Brassicaceae).

A nutritious vegetable grown for its edible flower buds and stalk. It grows up to from two to three feet high. Native to the eastern Mediterranean and Asia Minor with sprouting broccoli cultivated in Italy. Broccoli thrives in moderate to cool climates. In the same vein as numerous other herbs and vegetables, the ancient Romans introduced it to England. It later to spread to America in the 1700s.

The fresh broccoli is dark green in colour, with firm stalks and compact bud clusters. Upright with leathery leaves, broccoli bears dense green clusters of flower buds. These are visible at the top and in sideways branches . Yellow flowers follow with four petals which then produce silique fruits (a dry capsule).

Notably, Broccoli Seed Oil is a virgin oil and extracted with a mechanical cold press. Importantly without any solvents, chemicals, or preservatives. The oil is light gold to a deep green in colour.

Broccoli is high in dietary fibre, and contains vitamins including A, C, and K, as well as minerals, which include potassium and folic acid.  Composed of 50% Erucic Acid alongside others fatty acids Broccoli seed has it’s own unique properties.  Broccoli seed oil is an excellent anti-oxidant, it is very light and  non-greasy in consistency, and therefore easily absorbed into the skin.
