Ravensara – Ravansara aromatica – Antibacterial, antiviral and stimulating
Clove nutmeg another name for Ravensara ‘Ravansara aromatica’. Ravensara essential oil is very different to Ravintsara oil, despite similar names and origins.
Although both originate in Madagascar, Ravensara is a bush-like plant with glossy leaves and berries. A member of the laurel family, the leaves are distilled to produce the Ravensara oil.
Ravensara essential oil has a sweet, soft, camphor-like fragrance with liquorice overtones. A ‘cure all’ oil which is similar to Tea Tree in Australia.
It is a clear, slightly yellow oil with a thin consistency. The people of Madagascar describe it as the “oil that heals” as it is commonly used to remedy infections.
Many people use Mint oils, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree for colds however Ravensara is a pleasing substitute.

Ravensara, Ravansara aromatica essential oil is completely safe, having no toxicity, phototoxicity or associated irritation or sensitisation.
Not recommended during pregnancy, as it’s aphrodisiac properties will have an adverse effect on the hormonal secretions.
