Patchouli comes from a species of plant with the genus Pogostemon. A member of the lamiaceae family, as is Lavender, Mint and Sage.
A bushy herb with rigid stems, reaching two to three feet in height, producing small, pale pink flowers, and cultivated extensively in the tropical regions of Asia,
Patchouli leaves are harvested several times a year dried, then exported for distillation. In 1960’s or 1970’s this musky scent was a very popular perfume, particulary for “hippies” and is known by many as an aphrodisiac.
