Palmarosa Cymbopogon Martinii Roxb. var Martinii originates from (the Poaceae family – Gramineae).

As long ago as the 14 C Ayurvedic medicine recorded the benefits of palmarosa.  The oil used then for numerous complaints.  A long list including coughs, heart disease, colic, bleeding disorders, epilepsy, sinusitis, fever, and anorexia. Leaves were also added to bath water for perfume whilst providing relief for arthritic pain.  Interestingly, traders from Europe called Palmarosa a ‘Turkish’ or ‘Indian’ Geranium oil.

Both the age and the quality of the oil play an essential role in determining it’s floral aroma and it’s subtle undertones.

Palmerosa comes from the grasses family which thrive abundantly in India. Mainly towards the Himalayan mountains, and then down to the Seychelle Islands and the Comoro islands. According to Arctander, Palmarosa was a natural source of geraniol. Nowadays, however, the demand for pure geraniol has diminished.
